Thompson 10, LaMoure-Litchville-Marion-Edgeley 7

Thompson won its 4th consecutive North Dakota Class B State Baseball Championship Saturday as the Tommies defeated LaMoure-Litchville-Marion 10-7 Saturday at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.

Thompson took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning by scoring 3 runs to break a 1-1 tie.  Jonny Muhs had an rbi triple, with Eli Gemmill and Braden Tyce adding run-scoring hits.  The Tommies added to their lead in the fourth on an rbi double by Drew Odenbach.

The Loboes scored twice int he top of the fifth to cut their deficit to 5-3.  Then Thompson replied with 3 in their half of the fifth with 2 runs scoring on a Will Welke double and Welke later scoring on an error to give the Tommies an 8-3 advantage.

In the sixth, the Loboes got a run, but Thompson picked up 2 more on a pair of wild pitches, making the score 10-4 in favor of the Tommies.

LaMoure-Litchville-Marion took advantage of 5 walks to get 3 runs, but it wouldn’t be enough as Thompson held on for a 10-7 win and a 4th consecutive State Class B title.

Jeromy Tyce was the winning pitcher for Thompson (25-2).  In 5 2/3 innings, he allowed 9 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch wth 4 strikeouts.  Braden Tyce worked 2/3 of an inning, allowing a hit, 3 runs and 4 walks.  Thomas Schumacher got the final 2 outs to earn a save, giving up one walk.

Offensively for Thompson, Welke was 3 for 5 with 2 rbi and 2 runs scored.  Dex Avdem went 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Brady Hanson was the losing pitcher for the Loboes (13-3).  In 3 2/3 innings, he gave up 9 hits, 5 runs (4 earned) with 2 walks, 4 hit batters and a strikeout.  Mason Warcken pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 5 runs (2 earned), with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

The Loboes’ Owen Lesko was 3 for 5 with 3 rbi, with Gunner Thielges going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
