MayPort-CG 11, Nelson County/Midkota 1 (5 innings)

MayPort-CG bounced back from a loss to Thompson in the winners bracket semifinal to defeat Nelson County/Midkota 11-1 in 5 innings Wednesday in the Region 2B baseball tournament at Mayville State University.

Nelson County/Midkota scored in the top of the first on a Cooper Hovdenes rbi single.  But MayPort-CG responded with two runs in their half of the first.  And the Patriots didn’t stop scoring, adding 3 in the second inning, 4 in the third and 2 in the fourth to give MPCG a ten run lead.  Connor Dockter pitched a scoreless fifth inning to give the Patriots a win on the ten run rule.

Bricker Johnson was the winning pitcher in relief for MayPort-CG (16-10). He pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs, one walk and one strikeout.  Johnson was also 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs score and a run batted in.  Sawyer McGillils was 2 for 3 with 2 rbi and 3 stolen bases.

Caleb Rainsberry took the loss for Nelson County/Midkota (8-10).  In 2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, 7 runs (4 earned), 5 walks and a strikeout.  Lakin Ronningen was 2 for 3 for the Chargers and scored their only run.

MayPort-CG faces either Hillsboro/Central Valley or Thompson Thursday in the consolation bracket final in the second of Thursday’s 3 scheduled games at Mayville State.
