Devils Lake 70, Thompson 41
Devils Lake’s defense held Thompson to 12 second half points as the Firebirds defeated the Tommies 70-41 Thursday night in Grand Forks to win the Division A Region 2 boys basketball championship.
The first half saw six lead changes and two ties with Devils Lake leading at the break 34-29. But the second half was all Devils Lake as the Firebirds took a 52-37 lead after three quarters and built up a 29 point lead at game’s end.
Mason Palmer led Devils Lake (22-1) with 19 points; Parker Brodina scored 17 and Joel Nelson 12 for the Firebirds.
Gavin Oster had 11 points for Thompson (15-8).
Devils Lake advances to the Division A State Tournament next week in Bismarck. Thompson will take on Central Cass for a State Tournament berth Saturday in Fargo.

Parker Brodina of Devils Lake was also named Region 2A Senior Athlete of the Year.
And his dad, Dustin Brodina (Devils Lake), was named Region 2A Coach of the Year.
