Thief River Falls at Win-E-Mac

Thief River Falls scored first and got up to a quick 10-4 lead. Win-E-Mac didn’t let the lead stay that big for long as they were able to tie it back up at 12. The two teams would go back and forth, but Win-E-Mac wouldn’t get it’s first lead until it was 22-20, but it lasted all of 5 seconds after Thief River Falls converted 1 of their 6 and-1 opportunities, 4 of which came in the first half. That sparked an 8-1 run by the Prowlers, but was answered shortly after by a Patriots 9-1 run which gave the Patriots a 4 point lead. The last 3 points of the half belonged to the Prowlers, but it was a 35-34 halftime lead for the Patriots.

The Patriots would have the hotter hand coming out of the locker room as after trading a couple buckets, the Patriots spark a 7-0 to give them their largest lead of the game 44-39. Unfortunately Thief River Falls had a run of their own in their back pocket the next 9 points went to Thief River Falls to recapture the lead. The lead would switch hands 4 more times from that point, but an 8-0 run by the Prowlers gave them a 65-56 lead and it looked like they would maybe be able to run away with it. However, the Patriots got it within 3 with about a minute and a half left after Joe Courneya got an and-1 bucket. He missed that free throw and after it was tipped around Courneya had an open look from the left wing to tie it but missed it long. From there the Prowlers would score the last 8 points including a dagger 3 pointer in the right corner  by Connor Bruce to seal the 11 point victory.

Thief River Falls improves to 12-9 and will have 2 days off before playing Fosston at home on Thursday. Win-E-Mac falls to 10-13 on the season. They host Crookston at home tomorrow.

Thief River Falls also won the JV game 68-42.
