Brayden Wolfgram’s two run triple keyed a five run sixth inning and he went on to be the winning pitcher as Thompson defeated Hillsboro-Central Valley 8-4 Thursday at Thompson.
Wolfgram relieved Thompson started Drew Odenbach in the fifth inning and allowed rbi singles to the first two batters he faced…giving the Burros a 4-3 advantage. But Wolfgram retired the last seven batters he faced to get the win on the mound.
HCV took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Cole Hebl doubled, stole third and came home on a throwing error by Thompson catcher Reese Berberich. Later, four walks produced the second run, when Chase Haffely walked with the bases full.
Thompson got a run back in the second on Braden Tyce’s sacrifice fly, then took the lead in the fourth. Jonathan Muhs doubled to bring in one run. The next batter, Shawn O’Hearn, hit a fly to center that was dropped by Burros’ outfielder Gavin Beliles, allowing Drew Overby to make it 3-2 in favor of the Tommies.
HCV regained the lead in the fifth with two runs of their own with rbi singles by Tyson Leshuk and James Fortman.
The game turned again in the Thompson sixth inning. Overby reached on an error. Then after one out, O’Hearn doubled to tie the game 4-4. After another out and a walk, Wolfgram tripled to center to score two runs and put the Tommies ahead to stay. Thomas Schumacher added an rbi single..then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by Burros catcher Andrew Dullum.
Cole Hebl was the losing pitcher for HCV. He relieved starter Kyle Haffley in the fourth inning and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and a walk, four runs (none earned) with five strikeouts.
Thompson is now 13-2 on the year. The Tommies host Carrington Friday at 3pm, followed by a game against Shiloh Christian at 5pm.
HCV is now 6-5 on the year. The Burros host Ada-Borup-West Monday afternoon.
