Tri-State earns first season win over Maple River

The Tri-State Tigers and Maple River Raiders both entered Friday night at 0-2 with a pair of large losses to their resume. Maple River struck first on a deep third down pass from McCoy Bjerke to Charlie McCullough for a 79-yard score. Then Tri-State Quarterback Raul Chavez-Salas went to work stepping up in the pocket and escaping for a touchdown from 46 yards out in the first quarter and 55 yards in the 2nd quarter. The score went 12-6 into halftime with both teams missing their conversion tries.

Chavez-Salas would go out with injury in the 2nd half for Tri-State putting Ayden Arneson at Quarterback the remainder of the game. The Tigers fed Oliver Loll a lot of 2nd half carries to get to the Raiders 12-yard line and Arneson hit Owen Wood in the flat, made defenders miss and dashed into the end zone to make it 18-6.

The Raiders first three plays didn’t go favorably and backed themselves into a 4th and 18, but with issues on the punt unit they decided to go for it and McCoy Bjerke extended the play evading the rush to find Charlie McCullough on the left sideline for the first down on the catch, but McCullough broke the next tackle and escaped all the way to the endzone for a 70 yard touchdown on 4th and 18 to bring the game to 18-12.

Tri-State would recover momentum on the next drive taking 5 minutes off the clock and moved the ball into the redzone before Oliver Loll punched it in from 12 yards out. The Tigers then forced a fumble and recovered in plus territory as Owen Wood caught a touchdown pass when the Raiders were selling out to stop the run.
