The Pine River-Backus Tigers swept their way to a sixth straight win, topping Northland Conference arch-rival Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.

Set one was dominated by the Tigers as they started the match with a 17-1 run after the Wolves scored the opening point and won handily 25-11.

Set two was much more back and forth, but the Tigers led wire-to-wire after a 6-1 start. Never leading by more than five, the Wolves were denied any big run and PRB won 25-21.

The Tigers came out roaring in the third, scoring the first nine points and leaving little doubt who was the better team this time around. PRB pushed the lead to 17-4, and despite the Wolves crawling back to within six, it was too late and the Tigers sealed the win 25-17.

The win is the fifth straight in the series for PRB, who moves to 4-0 in Northland play and 12-6 overall. The Wolves fall to 2-3 in the conference and 3-9 overall.

Leah Eveland had 13 assists, seven kills and six ace serves to lead the Tigers. Ava Burns and Ella Brewer each also had three aces.
