Walker-Hackensack-Akeley at Polk County West (Climax)
Recap
Climax, MN – Polk County West makes it 3 wins in a row to improve to 3-1 on the season as the offense and defense both showed out.
To start the game, it looked like Walker-Hackensack-Akeley was going to have a big night as they got the interception on Polk County West’s opening drive and then started to march down the field. Then Polk County West’s Alex Reitmeier got into the backfield in a hurry and forced an 8 yard loss and from that point on the Thunder defense started rumbling.
The Wolves were then forced to punt and on that next drive for the Thunder, they marched down 85 yards for the first score of the game capped by a 10 yard Grady Horken touchdown run with 24 seconds left in the 1st quarter.
After Polk County West’s Micah Zavoral caught his first of 2 interceptions the Thunder again were able to put together a touchdown drive to close out the 1st half and had a good mix of the run game and the pass game. The last play of the drive was the best one as Micah Zavoral found Tiyaz Davis in the right corner of the endzone from 20 yards out with just 25 seconds to go in the half to make it 13-0.
The Wolves got the ball to start the second half, but coughed it up again after a mishandled snap. Then just 5 plays later, Tiyaz Davis and Polk County West found themselves in the endzone again after a 15 yard rush to make it 21-0 with the 2 point conversion.
Walker-Hackensack-Akeley had an immediate response though. Their next drive took just 3 plays and only 45 seconds before Levi Meschke punched it in from 15 yards out to make it 21-6.
Polk County West ended up turning it over on downs after going for it on 4th and goal, but they still got points on the board after Charlie Hart was able to get the sack in the endzone for the safety.
After the free kick, a good return, and a penalty on the return, Polk County West was again able to capitalize on short field position and scored another touchdown off a screen pass from Zavoral to Horken from 28 yards out to cap the scoring and make it 30-6.
Polk County West improves to 3-1 on the season and will be back at home next week for their homecoming matchup against Red Lake.
Walker-Hackensack-Akeley falls to 0-4 on the season and they’ll also be at home for their homecoming game against Pine River-Backus.
