Ada-Borup-West scored two runs in each of the first two innings and held on for a 4-3 victory over West Marshall in the Section 8A West winners bracket Thursday in Ada.
The Cougars got one run in the first inning on an error and another on an Austin McCraven rbi double. Then in the second inning, Cameron Spaeth singled to drive in a run, and later in the inning, McCraven walked with the bases loaded to put Ada-Borup-West in front 4-0.
West Marshall got a run back in the fifth inning as Jackson Kekke singled home a run. Then in the seventh, the Fusion nearly won it. Kekke singled in two runs to make it a 4-3 game. Then a single and a walk loaded the bases with two out. But ABW’s Baron Odden struck out Jackson Woinarowicz to end the game.
Odden (4-2) pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits, three runs (two earned), three walks, three hit batters and four strikeouts.
Marshall Truedson took the loss for West Marshall, allowing four runs in two innings. Carsen Safranski pitched five scoreless innings in relief for the fusion, allowing just one hit with one walk and two strikeouts.
Ada-Borup-West advanced to play Sacred Heart in the Sub-Section title game later Thursday in Ada.
West Marshall will now play Red Lake County in the consolation bracket later Thursday in Ada.
