Win-E-Mac at Clearbrook-Gonvick

Clearbrook, MN –– Win-E-Mac wins a thriller in a two day season opener.

The Bears scored on their first two possessions of the game via a 55 yard rushing touchdown by Ryan Gerlofs and then Carver Kroulik’s first pass of the game resulted in a 23 yard touchdown to Trey Goudge.

Win-E-Mac’s defense ramped up from that point on which led to good field position. They finally got into the endzone on a one yard rush by Austin Lengseth with 2:41 left in the second quarter.

Clearbrook-Gonvick took a 14-8 halftime lead into the locker room and the teams were never able to get back to action as thunder in the area forced a postponement.

Even though it was the day before, Win-E-Mac carried the momentum they had going into the halftime break and broke the scorer’s column almost immediately to open the second half. It took just 56 seconds for them to tie and then take the lead after a 38 yard rushing touchdown from Jayden Haugen and the two point conversion to take the 16-14 lead.

The Bears were able to answer back late in the 3rd quarter after Avery Ostnaa broke free for 50 yards into the endzone to recapture the lead and with the two point conversion made it 22-16.

After a muffled snap and partially blocked punt, the Patriots found the endzone on a one play drive going for 27 yards and a touchdown by Jayden Haugen again. Two point conversion was failed to tie it at 22 each.

Neither team could score for the rest of regulation, so the already wacky game got even more crazy sending it to overtime.

The Bears got the ball first in overtime and had to use up all 4 of there tries, but were able to punch it in on a QB sneak that Carver Kroulik had to reach for in order to break the plane.

The Patriots only need one play as Jayden Haugen again was able to punch it in to the endzone for his 3rd touchdown of the game. Everybody knew that Haugen was going to get the ball on the two point conversion, but it didn’t matter as he was able to walk in upright and secure the 30-28 win.

Win-E-Mac starts the season 1-0 and they’ll have their home opener next Friday against the Northern Freeze. Clearbrook-Gonvick falls to 0-1 and will travel to play Lake of the Woods next Friday.
