Warbirds win road battle in 5

Wyndmere/Lidgerwood got off to a fast start in set 1 jumping to an 8-4 lead and opening up their largest lead of the set at the end with a 25-17 win. Mya Kackman led the way offensively in the first set off great setups from Reese Hosford.

Maple River answered back in set 2 with a large output from Sophomore Sophia Satrom. Satrom was in double-digit kills before the end of the 2nd set as Maple River controlled from the opening serve winning 25-16.

Set three produced a tight finish with the Warbirds up 24-20 before a service error sparked a 3-0 Raiders run, but Aria Ryg pushed a left-handed tip finish over the net to secure set 3 for the Warbirds 25-23.

Set 4 was close all the way and tied at 22 but Sophia Satrom took things into her own hands and carried the Raiders to three straight points to force a 5th set.

Wyndmere/Lidgerwood grabbed 5 of the first 6 points in the fifth set but Maple River came back to within two points at 10-8. An all-important point was up for grabs as Reese Hosford tracked a ball down near the stands and back to the middle of the floor for her team to return in spectaular fashion. Mya Kackman lunged to get the ball over on the 3rd touch after the save and the Warbirds were sure the ball would land in the empty space, but Raider’s libero Carly Hovelson laid out with a full-extension dive to seemingly keep the play alive which then landed in Warbirds territory while they celebrated. The point was initially awarded to Maple River but overturned after discussion and that was the turning point of the 5th set. Wyndmere/Lidgerwood would win 15-10 in 5 led by Mya Kackman, Reese Hosford and Eden Hoffert.
