Fargo voters to decide on Fargodome expansion

Fargo residents will have the chance to vote for an upcoming $131 million expansion project to the Fargodome. Residents will have the opportunity to either approve or disapprove a tax increase that would be used to fund the potential project.

The renovation plan includes an increase to the number of women’s and men’s bathrooms, more options for accessible seating, increased concourse space, elevators, and a 90,000 square foot convention center that would be built on the grounds of one of the Fargodome’s parking lots. Despite this only about 30 parking sports would be lost with the rest relocating to other areas.

The Fargodome is seeking the approval for a quarter of a cent sales increase and a 3% lodging tax increase that would be done over a 20 year period. If approved it is projected that under 50% of the funds will be paid by Fargo residents with a majority of the money coming from non local residents.

The special election will take place on December 5 2023 and it will need 60% of the vote to pass. If the project is approved construction could start as early as 2024. The Fargodome would remain open during the construction.
