Fertile City Council Meets

August 19, 2025 News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

FERTILE, MN—Monday’s Fertile City Council meeting had a break for an hour and 20 minutes…while the Council went into closed session to consider allegations or charges against an individual subject to the Council’s authority.  The matter wasn’t resolved in that closed session and will be taken up again at the Council’s next meeting on September 15.

In business where the Council did take action Monday, a master services agreement was agreed with Moore Engineering of West Fargo to serve as Fertile city engineer for the next three years.  Also, the Council accepted a bid from Aaron Werdy of Gary for haying at the Fertile Airport for the next five years at $50 per acre and $5700 annually.  Fertile Mayor Brian Nephew says the Council has narrowed its choices for a new City Attorney down to two.

Both candidates for City Attorney will be interviewed at the next Fertile City Council meeting.  Nephew says there has also been some movement on hiring a new permanent administrator for the City-owned Fair Meadow Nursing Home.

According to court documents, the City of Fertile, former Mayor Dan Wilkens and Fair Meadow Nursing Home have reached a settlement with former Fair Meadow Nursing Home Administrator Angie Leiting in a lawsuit Leiting filed in September 2023 over her forced resignation in June of 2023.  A scheduling conference in Polk County Court is set for Wednesday, August 20.
