FERTILE, MN—Monday’s Fertile City Council meeting featured more talk about mediation between Fertile Mayor Brian Nephew and two unnamed City employees.  Attorney Jana Sullivan recommended that mediation between the sides continue, pointing out that “lawsuits bring more conflict.” between the parties.  The Council voted 4-1, with Mayor Nephew voting against, to pay $4750 to continue mediation. The Council’s motion also required Councilwoman Eileen Todahl to contact the League of Minnesota Cities to see if there are other options besides mediation.  

In other business Monday, the Fertile City Council approved new ordinances regarding temporary cannabis events and cannabis use in public places, at the request of City Attorney Cynthia Kirchoff.  Street closings for the June 13 car show were approved, as well as the use of the City Park and Cannon Park for the car show.  Permits were approved for The Other Place, Erickson’s Smokehouse and Side Street Bar and Grill for gaming for the Fertile Fire Department.  And Jennifer Flikke was appointed to Fertile’s Economic Development Authority.
