Fertile City Council Meets
FERTILE, MN—At Monday night’s regular meeting, the Fertile City Council set its preliminary tax levy for 2027. Fertile Mayor Brian Nephew tells us what the levy is.
Fertile City Administrator Lisa Liden told the Council the proposed budget includes a 3 percent pay increase, plus a 12 and a half percent increase in water and sewer rates. The final levy will be set at the Fertile City Council’s December 14 meeting. Nephew says the Council will hold a special meeting to discuss the budget at some time in the future.
Also at Monday’s meeting, the Council continued discussions on making it possible for people to watch Council meetings remotely or even commenting on meetings remotely. Nephew speaks on the issue.
Nephew says he and City Attorney Cynthia Kirchoff will talk about such a policy.
The Fertile City Council also heard a 50 minute presentation by MnDOT about a proposed renovation of US Highway 32 through downtown Fertile. That project has been pushed back to 2030 at the earliest.
