Fire Prevention Week/Smoke Alarms
During Fire Prevention Week, you often hear reminders to change the batteries in your smoke alarm. Ada Fire Chief Glen Visser says you may need to change something else–your smoke alarm.
Visser says you should check your smoke alarm to see if it’s past its life expectancy.
If you have a combined smoke and carbon monoxide detector, the life span of that device is between 5 and 7 years. And If your smoke alarm is hard-wired, you’ll need to call an electrician to have it replaced.
