GLP-1’s impact on Agriculture

GLP-1’s impact on Agriculture

October 27, 2026 Farm News News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

Usage in the GLP-1 weight loss drug is growing nationwide, and agricultural markets across the country future usage of the drug could have a major impact on the drug as food consumption decreases. Terrain specialty crop analyst Matt Woolf says more than one of 10 Americans are using some form of a GLP-1, and he talks more about the impact that could have on agriculture.

Nationwide, this increased usage of GLP-1s is resulting in an increased consumption of specialty crops, and Woolf says this includes some of the specialty crops grown in the Red River Valley.

Woolf says some locally grown commodity crops like wheat could also see an increase in consumption, if the cards are played right.
