Herberg Dairy Open House

HILLSBORO, ND—Dozens of people came to Hillsboro High School Thursday afternoon to check out plans to build a large dairy just southeast of Hillsboro in Herberg Township. Riverview Dairy of Morris, Minnesota wants to build a $180 million dairy that would host 25-thousand cows. Brady Janzen, a partner at Riverview Dairy, has an update on the project.
Marty Haroldson, director of water quality for the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, says it shouldn’t be long before people will be able to make public comments on the proposed dairy.
One interested observer at Thursday’s open house was Amber Wood, the executive director of the North Dakota Livestock Alliance. Wood says it would be good to have another dairy in North Dakota.
Riverview officials say the proposed dairy would employ about 100 people and produce about 22 loads of milk per day. They also say the dairy’s economic impact would be about $6 million in annual payroll. Riverview says other positives for the Hillsboro area would be increased enrollment in local schools, plus more local job opportunities for truckers, manure applicators and daily repairs.
