Hillsboro City Commission News & Notes from April 18th Meeting
Hillsboro, ND — The Hillsboro City Commission held a lengthy regular meeting this past Monday night, April 18th at the Main Street Community Center. Totaling more than 3 ½ hours in length, the commission spent the first hour taking comments and questions as part of the annual Tax Equalization Hearing. Some citizens were concerned that their recent assessments were too high and varied greatly from other similar properties. Hillsboro City Commission President Terry Sando says their assessor, Michelle Mooney, provided some insight into the assessments and is going to work with the city to find some solutions.
The city commission also spent about 45 minutes discussing a nuisance property under the Beautification report. President Sando says the property owner was at the meeting to debate their concerns, but ultimately will have a few weeks to get it cleaned up before the city does it for them.
The City of Hillsboro is continuing their efforts to formally acquire or lease the railroad park property from Burlington Northern, but Sando says they were a bit taken back when they found out the railroad company is now asking for money after the city had taken care of it for decades.
And Sando says Commissioner Sather provided a report to the board on some updates from the Hillsboro Fire Department, which recently purchased a new rescue truck and other new equipment.
The Hillsboro City Commission also approved contributing $4500 towards a tent for the Hillsboro Business Association.
