Hillsboro Fire and Rescue Looking Towards Future Expansion
The Hillsboro City Commission met in regular session Monday evening.
The Hillsboro Fire Department presented preliminary expansion plans for a new fire and rescue building. The proposed location for the building would be south of the city armory. The building could serve as a facility for the department, as well as local ambulance services and a location for a helipad. While there was no formal action on the discussion, the commission gave the go-ahead for the department to continue to pursue schematics and cost estimates.
Representatives from Countrywide Sanitation of Grand Forks also presented their services to the commission. Countrywide services several communities in northeast North Dakota, including Grandin. The city’s current sanitation contract is in effect until November, prompting the commission to approve opening bids for new five-year sanitation contracts on November 1st.
The commission also discussed a job description for the city’s public works superintendent position. Current Public Works Director, Jim Anderson, informed the commission of his plans to retire before the end of this year. City Commission President, Levi Reese, also informed the commission that the new sign in Railroad Park should be installed today.
Other approved action items included pay applications and change orders for the water main replacement and sanitary force main improvements and a liquor license transfer for Tap That.
