House Committee hears bill to ban pet store sales of cats and dogs

Over the last decade, animal advocacy groups across the United States have been pushing for families and individuals to adopt, and not shop when looking for a four legged friend. On Tuesday, the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee heard house file 2627, which is a bill that is looking to ban pet stores across Minnesota from selling dogs and cats. Bill Author Rep. Matt Norris (DFL-Blaine) tells us more about his bill. 

The bill is supported by animal advocacy group Humane World for Animals who claim the bill would protect consumers and animals alike. Group spokesperson Aaron Zellhoefer explains how. 

The committee also heard testimony from Minnesota pet owner Megan Helling who spoke in favor of the bill, after her own experience buying from a pet store. 

HF2627 was laid over in committee for future consideration. HF2627 has bi partisan support, with house Democrats and Republicans co-sponsoring the bill.
