The Fort Frances Lakers picked up a home win last night — edging the Ironwood Lumberjacks 2–1 at Ice for Kids Arena during Healthy Community Awareness Night.
The Lumberjacks struck first midway through the opening period, but the Lakers came back strong — Gunnar Simon tied it on the power play in the second, and Nick Fagnilli buried the game-winner late in the frame.
Lakers goaltender Nolan Koethler stopped all 22 shots for the win after that early goal. He previously earned his team’s first shutout in nearly four years at Saturday’s road game against Sioux Lookout.
Nick Fagnilli scored the deciding goal in front of hometown fans — and family who made the trip from Kenora.
The Lakers are now just one point back of Sioux Lookout for second place in the SIJHL standings. They’ll host the Red Lake Miners next, Friday and Saturday. Puck drop on November 14th and 15th is 7:15pm both nights at Ice for Kids Arena.
