Leiting Sues City of Fertile, Mayor Wilkens
The dispute between the City of Fertile and Angie Leiting, the former administrator of the Fair Meadow Nursing Home is moving into the courtroom. A statement released Thursday by Leiting’s attorney says Leiting has filed suit against the City of Fertile, Mayor Daniel Wilkens and Fair Meadow Nursing Home and Assisted Living–which is owned by the City of Fertile.
As R&J News has been reporting, in June the City gave Leiting the choice of resigning or being fired from her job. A “Cease and Desist” notice to Leiting was also issued. After obtaining recordings of closed Fertile City Council meetings, it was learned a City Council member acknowledged the “Cease and Desist” notice was meant to cover the City…as no Council member cited concern over resident safety, instead because Leiting “had keys and had power.”
The statement from Leiting’s attorney goes on to allege that at a January closed meeting, Mayor Wilkens said “If Angie was gone, that problem would go.” Another allegation is that an inaccurate statement was made about the requirements of nursing staff and Leiting was accused of misappropriating funds—when the City Administrator pulled the wrong statute.
R&J News reached out to both Angie Leiting and Fertile City Administrator Lisa Liden; both refused comment.
No word when the first hearing in this case is scheduled. R&J News will continue to follow this story.
