Leiting Supporters Disappointed With Monday’s Fertile City Council Meeting
FERTILE, MN—
Over 80 people attended Monday’s Fertile City Council meeting to show support for Angie Leiting, the former administrator of the city-owned Fair Meadow Nursing Home. Leiting says in June she was forced by the City Council to resign or else be fired. Leiting and dozens of supporters hoped the Council would answer a petition asking questions about refusing to discuss her case in special meetings and also why minutes of closed session meetings aren’t being posted on the City’s website. Councilwoman Amanda Bosman read a statement with the City’s response to the petition.
The statement went on to say that City Administrator Lisa Liden will post notices of closed meetings on the door of City Hall….and that Liden is “looking at options” for broadcasting City Council meetings….and that the questions asked on the petition are considered requests for data and will be dealt with accordingly.
Following the meeting, Leiting spoke about the City Council’s verdict.
The Fertile City Council on Monday also approved advertising for a new administrator at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, as well as payment to Pemberton Law of Fergus Falls for services in employment law. A total sum was not read aloud, only that Pemberton charged $190 per hour, plus $125 per hour for staff. Liden said Pemberton’s fee would be paid through the City’s general fund.
When the agenda items had been covered, citizens shouted questions at Fertile Mayor Dan Wilkens. He abruptly adjourned the meeting and walked away.
