Mahnomen City Council Receives MN DOT Planning Grant; Plus News & Notes from August 1st Meeting
Mahnomen, MN — The Mahnomen City Council held their first regular monthly meeting for August on Monday, August 1st at the Mahnomen Fire Hall. At the meeting, it was announced that the city will be awarded a Minnesota Department of Transportation Grant. Mahnomen City Administrator Kari Kirschbaum says this research and development grant will provide the city with a comprehensive plan for the city in regards to trails, sidewalks, and crossings along Highway 59.
Also at the meeting, the city council heard a proposal from the White Earth Tribal and Community College. Kirschbaum says they are looking to expand and may need some land from the city.
And as part of their continued efforts to reduce their stray dog population, the council agreed to enter into a contract with the Marshmallow Animal Shelter of Detroit Lakes.
And with Wild Rice Days, the annual town festival, coming up at the end of the month, Kirschbaum gave an update on the planning.
Wild Rice Day is set for August 27th. Other events being planned include a car show, corn hole tournament, music, and more.
