Mental health concerns

September 5, 2022 News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

The recent murder-suicide in Towner County, North Dakota shows how multiple deaths in a small community can affect the people who live there.  Monica McConkey, a rural mental health specialist based in Detroit Lakes, says a murder-suicide can be harder to accept than other unexpected deaths.

McConkey goes on to talk about the wide-ranging effects of such deaths.

McConkey says support for the survivors will still be needed weeks and months after the deaths.

There’s a new national hotline available for anyone who is feeling suicidal or depressed.  McConkey talks about the 988 hotline.

988 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Counselors are on hand to listen to you and answer your questions.
