Minnesota Flag and Seals Commission chooses three state flag finalists
The Minnesota Flag and Seals Commission met again yesterday and have narrowed their state flag design options from six to three. The flags that will be moving forward for consideration will be designs F944, F1953, and F2100. Between now and their next meeting on Friday designers will create additional mockups of the designs based on the modifications discussed by the Commission Tuesday evening.
The Commission also made some modifications to the state seal that was chosen last week. Those modifications include:
- Making the loon’s eye red
- Removing the year Minnesota was made a state (1858)
- Not including the state motto (L’etoile du Nord)
- Including Mni Sóta Makoc̣e (“Land where the waters reflect the sky” in Dakota)
The Flag and Seal Commission’s next meeting is set for Friday from 1 pm to 5 pm.
