Minnesota Flag and Seals Commission Picks new state seal
The Minnesota Flag and Seals Commission have chosen their design for the new Minnesota State seal. The Commission announced on Tuesday that they unanimously voted to move forward design S224 as the basis for the next state seal of Minnesota.
Design S225 features the state bird in a pose that signifies pride and energy. Waves that symbolize the state’s abundance of lakes. Wild rice which is the state grain, which also represents agriculture of today and of Native American tribes.
The sea also features pine trees that represent our forests and land and 19 stars that represent MN as the 19th state to join the union.
Aspects of the design may still be modified. During their meeting on Tuesday the commission listened to testimony from the public. The commission will meet in person and Tuesday, December 12 to discuss design modifications to the state seal, and they will also continue work to create Minnesota’s next state flag, using the six finalists as the basis for the flag.
The final designs up for consideration by the commission are entries F29, F944, F1154, F1435, F1953, and F2100. They can all be viewed on the flag entry page on the State Emblems Redesign Commission’s website at serc.mnhs.org/flags.
