Minnesota Republicans propose bill to alter law that caused the removal of school resource officers
With many local law enforcement agencies like the Clay County Sheriff’s Office pulling school resource officers from area schools, many Republican Lawmakers across the State of Minnesota are calling on Governor Tim Walz to call a special session so lawmakers can change the recent legislation that caused Minnesota Law Enforcement agencies to pull school resource officers out of schools.
Sen. Zach Duckworth from Lakeview said in a capital news conference on Wednesday that “he has bipartisan support for a one-page bill draft that would repeal a clause in the 2023 education bill that authorizes school employees or agents to use reasonable force when it is necessary … to restrain a student to prevent bodily harm or death.”
Governor Walz has yet to respond to these calls for action.
