Minnesota Senate considering bill to legalize mobile sports betting in Minnesota

After a bill fell short in the final hours of last years legislative session the Minnesota Senate Committee on State and Local Government heard testimony on senate file 757 which would legalize mobile sports betting in the State of Minnesota. Speaking at the meeting was the bill’s author Senator Matt Kline (DFL-Mendota Heights) who explained how this years bill is different from last year. 

Senator Kline also spoke on more details of the bill that include things like tribal licensing exclusivity, and provisions that he says “makes it the safest sports betting legalization bill in the country. 

After testimony from different organizations that both supported and opposed the bill, the bill failed to move forward in the and it’s now stalled in the Committee on State and Local Government, where it will continue to be worked on. 

The committee also heard testimony from Senator John Marty (DFL- who’s the author of a bill that has stricter provisions on sports betting. The committee voted to bring his bill to the table for future considerations.
