MN Budget Outlook

What’s the outlook for Minnesota’s budget?  It depends on who you ask.  On Wednesday, a new forecast from the Minnesota Management and Budget office projects a surplus of $2.4 billion for the budget period ending in June 2025.  Speaker of the Minnesota House Melissa Hortman talks about the new report.

But when R&J News reached out to Minnesota Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, this was his response to the report.

The Republican from East Grand Forks pointed out that when Republicans were in the majority in both the State House and Senate, the last budget they created led to a $17.5  billion surplus. Johnson says that’s now gone and Democrats have also raised taxes to pay for more things.
