Moorhead Police pulling resource officers from schools
The Moorhead Police Department announced on Thursday that they will be pulling all of their school resource officers out of all Moorhead Public Schools in response to the recent Minnesota Legislation passed earlier this year.
In their press release the Moorhead Police Department says that “Recent changes in Minnesota law have been interpreted by legal counsel to remove the standard law enforcement authority of officers contracted by school districts or assigned to work in schools. This includes Moorhead’s School Resource Officers.”
They also say that there are active discussions occurring between many local and state entities including the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Police Chiefs Association are actively working toward a possible solution.
The Moorhead Police Dept says that their 30 plus year collaboration with Moorhead Public Schools will be put on hold till a solution is identified. All Moorhead school resource officers have been reassigned to patrol duties. The Moorhead Police Department will still respond to calls at Moorhead Public Schools
