National Pet Poison Prevention Month

March 26, 2024 News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

March is National Pet Poison Prevention Month.  Did you know that the majority of all calls to the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center are because pets accidentally swallowed human medications?  16-point-8 percent of calls were from pets swallowing human over the counter medicines, as well as vitamins and supplements.  A close second cause of pet poisoning is human food and drink–with protein bars, grapes, raisins, onions and garlic making up the largest part of this group.  Human prescription drugs, chocolate and veterinary products like soft chews round out the Animal Poison Control Center’s top five reasons to call the Center.

If you own a pet, you may want to keep the Animal Poison Control Center’s 24 hour phone number handy:  it’s 1-888-426-4435.
