NDSU’s Cam Miller On Walter Payton Award Watch List

 North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller was one of 35 players named Tuesday, July 30, to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the national offensive player of the year in Division I FCS college football.

The award, in its 38th season and affectionately known as the Heisman of the FCS, is named for legendary running back Walter Payton, who starred at Jackson State as part of his Hall of Fame career.

Miller, a fifth-year senior from Solon, Iowa, finished 11th in the voting for last year’s Walter Payton Award and was named to the Stats Perform FCS All-America second team. He had a school-record 72.0 completion percentage while passing for 2,688 yards and 19 touchdowns with only four interceptions. He also rushed for a team-high 13 touchdowns with 629 yards on 135 carries.

Entering the 2024 season with a 31-9 record as NDSU’s starting quarterback, Miller has made 38 consecutive starts leading the Bison to a national championship in 2021, a runner-up finish in 2022, and the national semifinals in 2023.

Miller ranks fourth in NDSU career history for passing attempts (743), completions (501), passing yards (6470) and passing touchdowns (48) and his career completion percentage of 67.4 ranks first. He is third in Bison history with 8,116 yards of total offense.

North Dakota State is scheduled to open the regular season at Colorado on Thursday, Aug. 29. The game will be televised on ESPN starting at 7 p.m. CT / 6 p.m. MT.
