New Story Stroll Feature Added to Rydell Refuge

Erskine, MN — Families visiting the Rydell National Wildlife Refuge have a new interactive reason to explore the outdoors this fall following the installation of a permanent “Story Stroll” along the Golden Pond Trail.

The new feature blends early childhood literacy with outdoor activity. The stroll spans the first quarter-mile of the trail and features 15 to 20 reading stations mounted along alternating sides of the path.

Each station displays a page from a nature-themed children’s book, allowing parents, caregivers, and children to read together as they walk. Promoting literacy while getting physical activity.

Many of the featured titles will include interactive elements. The trail’s inaugural book, “The Acorn and the Oak”, incorporates activity prompts on its pages, asking young readers to pause after a story section to observe nearby trees for local birds and wildlife.

Refuge officials plan to rotate the books periodically throughout the year to match changing seasons and keep the experience fresh for returning vistors.
