NMRC continues success with Open Championship Saturday
ALEXANDRIA, MN – Following the massive success on Friday with their Conference Championship event, the Northern Minnesota Robotics Conference held their open Championship on Saturday morning.
22 competitors from the conference and outside of it all participated with the hope of being crowned champion in the day’s events, starting at 9:30 am.
The competitors all participated in 26 qualifying matches prior to the Alliance Selection draft process. The top seeded 3630 Stampede (Golden Valley, MN) selected 8188 Grand Force (Grand Forks, ND) with the first pick in the selection, also selecting 3275 Regulators (Cass Lake, MN) with the final pick to form their alliances.
876 Thunder Robotics (Northwood, ND), who won the NMRC Conference Championship the day before, was the 4th seed and selected 5638 LQPV Robotics (Madison, MN) with their first pick and the 8422 Husky Howlers (Pillager, MN).
The playoffs were hard fought and filled with plenty of upsets, with the top two seeds both eliminated prior to the championship round. The championship round came down to a rematch from the NMRC Championship Friday between Thunder Robotics and 5913 Patriotics (Pequot Lakes, MN).
After falling in the best-of-three matches on Friday, the alliance of the Patriotics, 4480 UC-Botics (Upsala, MN), and 8878 Arrowbot (Ashby, MN) came away with the win in two matches. The top seeded Stampede Alliance came away with third place.
