Norman and Mahnomen Counties seeking applicants to join Opioid Settlement Advisory Council.

Norman and Mahnomen Counties are currently seeking applicants to join their respective Opioid Settlement Advisory Council. The council’s main objective is to recommend how funds are dispersed. The Council will advise Norman-Mahnomen Public Health and the Norman and Mahnomen County Board of Commissioners on how to utilize the Opioid Settlement funds most effectively, efficiently, and equitably. 

To be considered for the Advisory Council, complete the Opioid Settlement Advisory Council application on the Norman Mahnomen Public Health website at www.co.norman.mn.us/opioidsettlement.  

In total, Norman County’s share of the settlement is $407,337.62 and Mahnomen County’s share of the settlement is $503,490.96 with payments being dispersed over an 18-year period.

 Last year Governor Tim Walz signed a bill that will direct how the state will spend more than $300 million opioid lawsuit settlement aimed at funding the fight against opioid addiction and overdose deaths. This settlement is part of a $26 billion-dollar agreement with opioid manufacturers Johnson & Johnson Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan. Retail pharmacy chains CVS, Walgreens and Walmart were also part of the settlement. In total Minnesota could receive around $235 million from the settlement.
