Norman Mahnomen Public Health reminding parents about the importance of sun screen
Summer has arrived in the Red River Valley which means that people spending time outside will need to break out their sun screen. Kelsey Merkens of Norman Mahnomen Public Health says children as young as six months need to be using a mineral based sun screen.
Merkens also recommends that people use SPF 30 and re-apply regularly.
There are a lot of different options of sun screen available on the market, and one decision consumers will have to make is whether to go with a lotion based or spray on sunscreen. Merkens says if it’s available, you should choose a lotion based sunscreen.
People with questions about their sunscreen can talk to their family pediatrician.
