Norman-Mahnomen Public Health to Continue Their Healthy Homes Initiative

Ada, MN — Environmental hazards in the home harm millions of children each year. In 1999, in response to a Congressional Directive over concerns about child environmental health, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launched its Healthy Homes Initiative (HHI) to protect children and their families from housing-related health and safety hazards. Norman-Mahnomen Public Health recently announced that they were once again the recipients of a Healthy Homes grant so that they can continue to provide low-cost, effective home hazard assessment and intervention methods and education to mitigate housing related hazards, according to Public Health Nurse Tracy Johnson.

This year, according to Johnson, Norman-Mahnomen Public Health wants to focus on providing long-term mitigation measures and intervention.
