North Dakota State A Volleyball Tournament Quarterfinal Recap

MPCG 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-19) over Des Lacs-Burlington

In the first set MPCG, survived a slow start giving up the first 3 points of the match and trailing by as much as 4 points multiple times in the set.

The Patriots answered with five out of the next six points to take their first lead of the set. The Patriots didn’t look back and took the set 25-19.

In the 2nd set MPCG took an early 11-4 lead and were able to keep the Lakers at an arms length through the set, limiting the DLB runs to a maximum of 3 points, and getting crucial side outs when needed to hold on to win set 2 25-22.

MPCG scored the opening seven points of the 3rd set and again were able to get the needed side outs to take back momentum and maintain a multipoint lead and win the set 25-19. MPCG advances to the Division A semifinal Friday at 1 p.m. against Central Cass on yourliveevent.com. DLB will play in the consolation bracket at 9 a.m. on Friday against Dickinson Trinity.

Central Cass 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 27-25) over Dickinson Trinity

Central Cass earned a straight set sweep over Dickinson Trinity on Thursday afternoon. The Squirrels appeared in their first state tournament since 2017 and didn’t disappoint.

Izzy Thompson and Aspyn Prien finished with 15 kills each, while Abby Kobbervig added 20 assists. Central Cass plays May-Port CG at 1 p.m. in the State A semifinals from the Bismarck Events Center. You can listen to the match on yourliveevent.com.

May-Port CG is 2-0 against Central Cass this season winning the most recent matchup in 5 in Mayville on September 30th.

Madi Wegeleitner paced the Titans with 10 kills. The Titans play Des Lacs-Burlington in the consolation semifinals on Friday morning at 9 a.m.

South Prairie-Max 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-10) over Hazen

South Prairie-Max is back in the state volleyball semifinals for the second straight year following their sweep over Hazen.

Keira Francis finished with 14 kills and Skotti Beck added 11 kills for the Royals. South Prairie-Max plays the winner over Valley City and Thompson in the State A semifinals at 3 p.m.

Van Inwagen paced Hazen with 18 assists and Lauren Doll had 6 kills. Hazen plays in the consolation semifinals at 11 a.m. on Friday from the Bismarck Events Center.
