North Stars’ Voice Al Shaver Dies
One of the most iconic voices in Minnesota broadcasting history has died. Al Shaver, who was the play-by-play voice of the Minnesota North Stars, died Monday. He was 96. From the North Stars’ arrival as a National Hockey League expansion team in 1967…to their departure to Dallas in 1993, Shaver was behind the microphone calling the goals, the body checks—and even the fights. He is a member of the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame and he’s also in the media section of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Canada. Al Shaver…dead at the age of 96.
