Northern Minnesota Robitics Conference Championship a smash hit
ALEXANDRIA, MN – While the school bells were ringing throughout the Alexandria High School halls, fierce competitors in the Northern Minnesota Robotics Conference Championship Tournament were battling it out in the gym, vying for the title.
24 teams from the conference, including members in North Dakota and as far up north as Greenbush, participated in the event as the qualifying matches started up in the morning and continued into the afternoon.
Prior to the double-elimination tournament to determine this year’s champion, top teams had to make their selections in the Alliance Selection Draft. The top seeded 876 Thunder Robotics (Northwood, ND) had the first selection in the draft and took 3102 Tech-No-Tigers (Nevis, MN) with their selection.
The Thunder also selected the hometown Mechatronics (Alexandria, MN) with the final pick in the draft, to much applause from the crowd.
After twelve hard fought matches to lead to the finals, the alliance of the Thunder, Tech-No-Tigers and the Mechatronics came away with the championship, winning a best-of-three series against the alliance of the second-seeded Patriotics (Pequot Lakes, MN), Iron Mosquitos (Babbit, MN), and RoboJacks (Bemidji, MN).
A few of the other standout performances from a strong, competitive field were the Accelerators (Cass Lake, MN), who were the third seed in Alliance Playoffs, as well as the Red River Rage (Fargo, ND) and KAOTIC (Freeze, MN).
