Off-Duty Norman County Sheriffs Deputy struck by car near Twin Valley

An off-duty Norman County Sheriff’s Deputy has sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle near Twin Valley on Thursday night. 

According to a release from the Norman County Sheriffs office, at approximately 10:55 PM the Norman County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of a male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of County Highway 29 and 460th street, located approximately 9 miles east of Twin Valley. It was reported that a dog had also been struck at the same location. 

The Norman County Sheriff’s Department says a 2014 Chrysler 200, driven by 34 year old Dalton Moore, of Twin Valley was traveling eastbound on County Highway 29 when he struck a dog near the intersection. 

The pedestrian, later identified as off-duty Norman County Deputy Sheriff Christopher Lee was crossing the highway to attend to his injured dog, when he was struck by a westbound 2015 Chevy Tahoe, driven by 21 year old Jaidan Bartz, of Twin Valley. 

Lee sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a Fargo, ND hospital. 

The Norman County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol with the investigation of this accident and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The drivers of both vehicles remained on scene, rendered assistance, and are cooperating with the investigation. 

The Norman County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Ada Police Department, Twin Valley Rescue, Gary Rescue, Mahnomen Ambulance and Life Link III.
