Otter Tail Power raising North Dakota customer rates
After being approved by the North Dakota Public Service Commission on Wednesday, Otter Tail Power announced that they will be raising rates by 6% for all North Dakota residents starting on January 1.
In the press release announcing the rate request approval Otter Tail Power President Tim Rogelstad said “With this approval of interim rates, customers will see an average net increase of 6.03% on their monthly electric service statements,” and that “We appreciate the Commission’s decision, which more accurately represents the costs to safely and reliably serve our customers, and look forward to a final decision in late 2024.”
Otter Tail originally requested a review on November 2 2023 with their last North Dakota rate review happening back in 2017. The company says that they requested a review due to increased costs to maintain a safe and reliable system while meeting growing electricity demand.
The North Dakota Public Service Commission and Otter Tail Power will hold public hearings related to the filing. The PSC will announce dates at a later time.
