Parents reminded to teach kids the importance of Pedestrian Safety
The temperatures are rising across the Red River Valley, and with these rising temps, causes an increasing amount of pedestrians taking advantage of the fresh air. While adults for the most part know how to safely walk and share the road with vehicles, children may need to be reminded or taught the proper steps is pedestrian safety. Tina Sanders of Safe Kids Grand Forks says parents can start by teaching their kids to use the sidewalk when able, and how to safely cross the road.
Sanders says it’s also important for parents to consider that their kids have a different perception of situations than they might have, and that it’s important to consider this when teaching things like crossing the road safely.
Sanders says another topic to touch up on is situational awareness, because while your child may be following the proper safety rules, drivers may not be.
