Park Christian freshmen Levi Torgerson and Zoe Vander Vorst were named the winners of the Presidential AI Challenge in the state of Minnesota. President Trump created the challenge to inspire young people in America to become well-versed leaders in AI.

They developed an AI-powered assistive system to support individuals with early-stage dementia. Their project combines a custom web application with smart glasses to provide real-time reminders, task guidance, and conversational support. Using natural language processing and large language models, the system helps users maintain independence while also assisting caregivers.

This project hits close to home for both students, who shared similar personal experiences, inspiring them to pursue it.

They plan to continue with the project beyond winning the accolades it already has received. Vander Vorst shares how they expect to keep improving the project.

As winners of the Presidential AI Challenge in Minnesota, Torgerson and Vander Vorst will advance to the regional round. Finalists from the regional round will showcase their projects in Washington, D.C. in June.
