Polk County Commissioner’s Update
Polk County Commissioner’s have begun distributing American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that were allocated to the county. President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act on March 11th, 2021. The federal stimulus bill is intended to aid public health and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Commissioner Joan Lee states commissioners have had to pick and choose recipients because they’ve had more requests than they have the funds for.
They have dedicated $100,000 of the ARPA funds for broadband. Homeowners can apply for a grant to connect their home to broadband.
Another issue Polk County Commissioners have dealt with of late is the presence of aquatic invasive species in Union Lake.
The Aquatic Invasive Species Committee which consists of lake people recommended that the Board of Commissioners grant Union Lake $15,000 to put towards the total cost of $29,160 to treat 60 acres and Commissioners agreed to do that.
