CROOKSTON, MN—Earlier this week, R&J News told you about a high speed chase Monday that ended with an officer-involved shooting near Crookston. Now the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help in investigating the chase. If you were on one of the following roads Monday between 9:40am and 10:10am and believed you were in harm’s way, you should contact the Sheriff’s Office.
The roads are: County Road 20 between the Marshall and Polk County line and County Road 21; County Road 21 from Sherack to US Highway 75; US Highway 75 between Polk County Road 21 and US Highway 2; US Highway 2 from US Highway 75—near the University of Minnesota-Crookston; the City of Crookston; and County Road 9, or KT Road, to County Road 16.
The suspect, 34-year-old Caleb Coffey of Oklahoma, was confronted by US Customs and Border Patrol officials at the Pembina Port of Entry in North Dakota….and then Coffey led law enforcement on a high speed chase that ended when an unnamed officer shot Coffey. After a hospital stay, Coffey is now in jail awaiting charges. Coffey’s vehicle was a black Cadillac SRX.
If you were in the area of that chase Monday morning, you’re asked to call the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 218-281-0431 and ask for the investigations unit.
