Rainy River Back on the Winning Side with 109-42 Win over Leech Lake Tribal College
On the Rainy River campus, the Voyageurs Men’s Basketball team would get back on the winning side of things with a 109-42 home victory over Leech Lake Tribal College. The team was led on by Austin Howe who shot 6/11 from the 3-pt line and finished with another 30-point game.
Close to Austin was also Braedon Gomez who had 17 points and 9 rebounds who was asked what was it that was working for him.
To wrap up the Voyageur’s Golden trio was Rodney Mozard who had 19 points, and 18 rebounds, which he was asked how he was able to get so many of them.
Rebounding was something mentioned as a point of emphasis from their 58-55 loss to Minnesota West.
Caleb Thompson would get 11 points off the bench and 8 rebounds, and Samuel Jideofor was close with 7 rebounds and 8 points. One of those coming off of a monster dunk late in the first half.
Another improvement, which Coach Collins has mentioned in previous interviews, was the players shooting percentages.
Samuel was asked how the Voyageurs plan to attack Riverland, who sits at the top of the nation in Juco Division 3.
A statement piggybacked by Braedon.
Then, it was mentioned to Braedon and the others that his performance from this past week was one deserving of the MCAC Player of the Week. Sadly, he was not the player selected for the award.
As a collective, the team agreed with their prediction for the rest of the season.
Of course, we caught up with Coach Collins afterwards to talk about the game.
The Voyageurs play again Friday where they’ll hit the road over to Riverland for a 7pm tip, and then head to Anoka-Ramsey for a 1pm tip.
