Rainy River Men’s Basketball Go 1-1 Over The Weekend

On the Rainy River campus, the Voyageurs Men’s Basketball would play back-to-back home games last Friday and Saturday where they would split the weekend 1-1. In Friday’s game against Ridgewater the Voyageurs would get the win 92-88 over the visitors. In the win, 4 of the 5 starters would reach double-digits in scoring with Austin Howe leading the scoring with 19 points. Braedon Gomez, Rodney Mozard, and Samuel Jideofor would all score 17 each and Gomez and Mozard would both record a double-double with Braedon Gomez getting 11 rebounds and Rodney Mozard getting 15. Then, Israel Barnett would get 11 points off the bench.

In Saturday’s game against Minnesota West, the Voyageurs would run into trouble as they would be down at halftime 42-27. Then, 3 minutes into the second half the Voyageurs would trail by 21 points before Rainy River started to surmount a comeback. Sadly, they would fall short in the final seconds losing 58-55 to Minnesota West. Braedon Gomex played a big part in the comeback shooting 5-6 in 3-pointers and scoring 23 points, Austin Howe scoring 10 and Rodney Mozard scoring 9. The Voyageurs will be back at home tonight, winter weather permitting, to play Leech Lake in a game that was postponed from November.
